Experiments with water. . .
through Flickr I h ave seen some amazing pictures using water, water drops, catching water falling etc... I LOVE it. water is amazing and so powerful. I have not done a lot of action photography where you capture moving objects, so to say the least I have been trying to "catch" water for a few months now. I tried to put my shutter speed at the fastest possible. That did not work. not to mention my focus was off. Since I am mostly a natural light photographer I do not work with flash a lot. although I am learning more about it.
I was so frustrated trying to capture these drops from my kitchen sink, then I remembered something one of my teachers taught us. "flash stops motion" {duh!} flash and slow shutter speeds can do some pretty cool stuff. SO I thought, "hmmm...lets try this flash thing" and what do you know. here are my water droplets! Perfect and beautiful. I am so happy with them. After many many failed attempt. Now that I know more about this I can experiment.. look for some more cool experiments with water in the future.
Go try this out, it was really fun. And if you do and post it let me know so I can come and see.

These are cool Keri,
ReplyDeleteI'll have to give this ago next time I am wandering the house looking for something to photograph.
The black & white - striking! The water drops look like jewls:)
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to the wedding shots too. I booked my first one for May. Your hubby's comment was funny.
I've been shooting Macros with a Kenko extension tube & my 50mm. Heavenly! It's great for ring shots too. I bought (Totally Rad)actions yesterday too & have been playing around with them. I like the fast easy post editing of LR2, but thought I'd give em a try:)
Very nice. Love them.
ReplyDeleteI have gotten some action pictures of my kids splashing in the bath and if you zoom in you can see every drop. So cool.
Your experiment seems to conclude a huge success. I love those picture, they are so artistic! Especially the last one :-)
ReplyDeleteSorry Girl about the contest :) I will have one again. I have to try this...I love what you got! I agree, the water looks like beautiful jewel rhinestones.
ReplyDeleteWOW Keri - those are really amazing!! I LOVE them. I really want to get better at artistic photography like this. You do such a good job taking pics of different elements!
ReplyDeleteThese are so cool!! Im going to go try that now!
